BEGINNERS OBEDIENCE LEVEL 1
Learning Basic Skills

A beginning level of obedience for puppies 16 weeks and older and adult dogs new to obedience. Limited to 8 students.

Beginners Obedience is an important foundation class for all dogs. In this six-week series of 60-minute classes you will begin with the basic skills that every dog should know, gain confidence in your ability to handle and train your dog, and learn to work together as a strong team. Classes include:

  • Step-by-step instruction in positive reinforcement training methods
  • Introductory obedience skills: touch, attention, sit, down, stand, come, stay, heel, and polite leash walking
  • Practical guidance for at-home challenges—chewing and biting, jumping, barking, and other attention seeking behaviors—how to change unwanted behavior without force or fear
  • Understanding how your dog thinks so you can manage, train and communicate in a manner that builds a strong bond between you and your dog
  • Learning to utilize "life rewards" so your dog quickly becomes hooked on doing what you want
  • A training manual and treat pouch
  • Socializing time at the end of most classes

BEGINNERS OBEDIENCE LEVEL 2
Getting Reliable Results

A second level of obedience training, available for all who successfully complete Beginners Obedience Level 1, Private training or demonstrate the equivalent skill level. Limited to 8 students.

This six-week series of hour-long classes strengthens all the Beginners Level 1 skills and adds new skills important for good control and reliable performance even with distractions. Classes include:

  • Learning to stay focused under distracting conditions
  • A variety of structured exercises and fun games to challenge top performance in reliable recalls, stays, and heeling
  • Additional new skills: polite greeting, wait, front and finish, sit and down at a distance, leave it, and more will be added
  • Some exercises are done off leash
  • Special at-home projects for strengthening your training skills and teaching your dog good manners with your guests.
